A Midusmmer Night’s Dream follows a group of young nobles as they journey in a mysterious forest to find love. An underlying plot reveals the history of two dueling forces living within the forest who were destroying the landscape over time. This theme of abuse is woven throughout the play, intertwining with the story of the lovers. This theme provided the opportunity to bring both symbolism and function to the set. I focused my design on how the environment had become twisted and aggressive, while providing a backdrop for the actors to use their space to their advantage to tell the story through physicality.
